[Hands-On] The Galaxy Note7
When Samsung first launched the Galaxy Note in 2011, there was nothing else like it on the market. It was the first-of-its-kind large-screen device that enabled users to do things they never thought possible on a smartphone. As we evolved over the years, so did the Note.
Helping you get more out of life, the new Galaxy Note7 features refined craftsmanship, an enhanced S Pen, top-of-the-line security and innovative entertainment capabilities. It’s more than just a smartphone—it’s a tool that works the way we live, and gives us the freedom to live the way we choose.
Redefined Design
With the Galaxy Note7, Samsung combined innovation and technology with a more user-focused approach to provide unsurpassed comfort and convenience. The device’s perfectly symmetrical front-to-back 3D curves create a balanced aesthetic, while its compact size allows for a more comfortable, ergonomic grip.
Despite its narrow width, the Galaxy Note7 boasts a large, dual-edge 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a subtle front bezel, allowing a highly immersive viewing (and writing) experience.
The Galaxy Note7 has a sleek design, which is complemented by four stunning color options: Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, Gold Platinum and the new Blue Coral.
While the physical appearance of the device contributes a lot to the overall look and feel, the software on the device is also an important element of the user experience. With this in mind, Samsung softened the colors of the user interface and made the icons uniformly rounded to make it easier on the eyes. Interactive Motion Wallpaper, which comes to life as you tilt your device, further enhances the user experience.
Finally, the simplified camera UX is more seamless and clean, and makes capturing important moments easier than ever.
The All-Powerful S Pen
More than just a writing tool, the enhanced Galaxy Note7 S Pen boasts a sharper pen tip and increased pressure sensitivity to replicate the ease and accuracy of a real pen. These changes allow for a more delicate expression and more natural handwriting.
With IP68 certification, both the Galaxy Note7 body and S Pen are dust and water resistant. In fact, the S Pen isn’t just safe in water—it actually works under water.*
A wide array of Air Command tools has been added to provide enhanced usability. Translate lets users hover over a word or an image of a word to get a translation on the spot while Magnify enlarges small text and images, even on websites where zooming is not possible. Smart Select has also been improved to let users create, save and share their own Animated GIFs.
With more creation tools like the Watercolor, Oil and Calligraphy brushes, the new S Pen lets users unleash their creativity to better express themselves. And now you can easily erase a sketch by simply holding down the side button.
In addition to these new features, Samsung streamlined its software to replace different Note-related applications with a single app called Samsung Notes. Now, all of your S Pen creations live in one location so you can easily access and quickly edit content.
An Always On Display for an Always On World
With the new Screen off memo on Always On Display, users can create shopping and to-do lists just as easily as they would with a sticky note. After the user jots down a memo, it remains visible on the Always On Display for a set amount of time to remind users of important events.
The Galaxy Note7’s Always On Display screen also displays important information and notifications—including those from third-party apps and the media player. Users can double tap the notification to automatically launch the corresponding app, saving them valuable time.
With the advanced Always On Display, the Galaxy Note7 stands out even when the screen is off. Users can now further customize the display with new clock modes, preset designs or even their own image.
Security Beyond Convenience
In line with Samsung’s continued commitment to protect users’ personal information, the Galaxy Note7 provides the ultimate level of privacy and security by integrating its trusted Samsung Knox platform with secure biometric authentication including fingerprint scanning, as well as its new iris scanning feature.
Given that an individual’s iris cannot be cloned or forged, this authentication method ensures that bank statements and confidential files can be stored securely. Furthermore, the iris scanner is fast, accurate and touch-free, making user verification easier than ever.
The Galaxy Note7 offers additional security features including Secure Folder, a single, encrypted folder that keeps your private and personal information separate and safe with an added layer of security. Secure Folder can be unlocked using a PIN number, the fingerprint scanner or the iris scanner, and can be hidden from others.
A Front-Row Seat to Top-Notch Entertainment
The Galaxy Note7 is the first Samsung smartphone to offer High Dynamic Range (HDR) video streaming capability for a richer, more realistic video streaming experience.
With true-to-life colors and shades, this extraordinary technology provides the highest video quality in the industry. Combined with the Galaxy Note7’s large, Super AMOLED display, the device offers an unrivalled mobile entertainment experience.
In addition to video content, the Galaxy Note7 provides best-in-class gaming, as it supports Vulkan, an API that gives developers an unprecedented tool to create, and gamers an unmatched mobile experience.
Along with the Galaxy Note7, Samsung’s Gear VR headset has also been enhanced. A refined design makes it more ergonomic and comfortable, while bigger lenses equate to a more immersive experience. An additional port enables connectivity with third-party USB devices, while compatibility with Samsung smartphones with either USB Type-C or micro USB ports means that more people can enjoy VR.
Built on the Galaxy Foundation
As an extension of the Galaxy 7 family, the Galaxy Note7 continues to support the features Galaxy users have come to know and love, such as the dust and water resistance and Dual Pixel camera technology.
Compared to the previous Note, the Galaxy Note7’s CPU is about 30 percent more powerful, while its GPU provides 50 percent more power. Furthermore, its internal memory has doubled in size to 64GB.
Expandable storage that supports a microSD card up to 256GB means that you can access all of your favorite music, photos and videos at any time. And, with an extended battery life and easy power management with the new Smart Manager UX, you can access and enjoy this content longer than before.
In the case that you do need a charge, fast wireless charging gets the job done quickly. You can also plug in your new Type-C USB cable to bring your battery back to life. The port is symmetrical, so users do not need to worry about plugging it in upside down.
For on-the-go charging, the new Backpack, which is Samsung’s wireless charging battery case, is now water resistant for optimized functionality. Another new accessory created to enhance the Galaxy Note7’s entertainment capabilities is the S View Standing Cover. When opened, this light and portable cover can be used to prop up the smartphone at a 60-degree angle —an optimized angle for watching videos.
Delivering new features, functions and usability, the Galaxy Note7 isn’t just a big smartphone. It’s a smartphone that thinks big, and helps you live big, too.
The Galaxy Note7 will be available starting on August 19 and preorders will begin in most countries in a matter of days. The countdown starts now!
